Srinagar: One army personnel has been killed and two others injured as Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowgam sector on Saturday, army sources said.
News agency ANI quoted army source as saying that Pakistan fired medium mortar shells along the LoC in North Kashmir’s Nowgam today.
“Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along LoC in Nowgam Sector, Kupwara today morning by firing mortars and other weapons. One soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. Two soldiers injured and evacuated, condition stable,” said Chinar Corps, Indian Army.
Pakistan also violated the ceasefire by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along LoC in Shahpur, Kirni, and Degwar sectors in Poonch. Indian Army is retaliating to Pakistan’s misadventures.
Rakesh Asthana, Director General BSF, accompanied by S S Panwar, IPS, Addl DG (WC), N S Jamwal, IG BSF Jammu Frontier, visited border outposts in the Samba sector, today. He also visited the spot where the tunnel was detected last week.
he BSF had detected a tunnel just beneath the India-Pakistan international border fence in Jammu, The tunnel is believed to be made by Pakistan in an attempt to infiltrate the border of India. This had prompted BSF to check whether there are more such tunnels in the area to hamper Indian security.
Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Kupwara district. Acting on a piece of specific information about the presence of militants in the forest area of Dana Behak in Warnow area of north Kashmir, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said.
Pakistan has done 2,730 LoC ceasefire violations since the beginning of this year. In all, 24 Indian civilians have been killed and over 100 injured in these incidents.
